Matthew is a 39 year old man with a diagnosis of Parkinson disease.
I met Matthew as my participant two years ago when the primary utilisation of his plan was around psychology support. Matthew presented as depressed and withdrawn, spending most of his time isolating himself at home. Matthew had ceased doing the things he loved, such as riding his bike, exercising, walking, and working as a radio DJ.
When I met with Matthew for his plan review this year, there was an obvious transformation in him.
It was the first time I had seen Matthew smile.
Over the last year, Matthew connected with an employment provider and was supported to continue living independently at home.
Matthew has gone from strength to strength and he now has a new lease on life. For the first time since his diagnosis, Matthew says he looks forward to getting out of bed every day and he loves NDIS for giving him his life back.
